Another Law Firm Takes NYT Space
By Barbara Jarvie, June 30, 2006

NEW YORK CITY-A third law firm has committed to space at the New York Times Building. Canadian law firm Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, inked 15-year deal for 64,000 sf of space on floors 36 and 37.

Over the last month, two other law firms have taken space at the site. Covington & Burling took 160,000 sf on five floors and Seyfarth Shaw LLP took 100,000 sf on three floors.

Terms of the latest deal were not released, but space in the site is marketed at $85 per sf. With this signing, nearly one-half of the 700,000 sf of space owned by Forest City Ratner Cos. has been leased. The 52-story tower is at 620 Eighth Ave. between West 40th and 41st streets. FCRC will own floors 29 through 52. The New York Times Co. will own and occupy the remaining floors, which will serve as their corporate headquarters.

Osler is currently located at 1221 Ave. of the Americas. Occupancy will take place in the second quarter of 2007. FCRC was represented by a team led by Mary Ann Tighe, including Howard Fiddle, Tim Dempsey, Pete Turchin, Matt Preotle and Jason Pollen of CB Richard Ellis. Osler was represented by Osler attorneys Norman Loveland and Neil Bindman, and was advised by Mark Weiss of Newmark Knight Frank.

Statewide law firm ties up boutique merger
Tampa Bay Business Journal, June 26, 2006

Akerman Senterfitt said it has absorbed Wickwire Gavin, a construction law and government contracts boutique, adding 30 attorneys from Virginia, Los Angeles and Wisconsin.

With the additions, Akerman Senterfitt said it would be able to offer its clients large-scale project development, disaster preparedness and recovery, construction and government contracts services, nationally and globally.

Akerman now has more than 475 attorneys and consultants. It ranks as the 19th largest law firm in Tampa Bay, with 27 attorneys, according to Tampa Bay Business Journal research.

The Wickwire attorneys are to gain greater access to the Florida market, as well as to Akerman's construction, corporate, tax and real estate practices.

Akerman has Florida offices in Tampa, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Orlando, Jacksonville and Tallahassee.

The firm said the acquisition is consistent with its long-term strategy for creating national and global practice areas consistent with its Florida strengths.
